VogelVox Tuning Bench

Votrax SC-01 style formant synthesis · resolving VQ-01: does this sound vintage, or merely broken?

Input

Hand-written phonemes always win. Edit here to correct the converter. Add a trailing colon to stress a phoneme — R OH: V AH K AA: N lengthens the two strong syllables.

Utterance set

The eight shipping lines — Doc 10 §3B.5 plus the stair-fall reversal (README §2.1).

Larry — the game that talks back

VogelTronics’ 1979 memory game, voiced through this same synth. Larry never congratulates — on a correct answer he just says “AGAIN.” Grouped by machine state; the Last word lines are the ones that fire seconds after you switch him off. Click any line to load it.

Presets

Hover for a description. “Clean” shows what this sounds like without the vintage treatment — useful for hearing how much work the degradation is doing.

Output

Energy above 4 kHz should stay near zero — that confirms the chip-rate bandwidth limit is applying. If it climbs above 5%, the most important part of the vintage character is not working.

Parameters

Highlighted sliders are the three that matter most. Several of these make the output objectively worse by conventional measures — that is the point. See docs/tuning.md before “improving” anything.
